Tips To Lose Weight Naturally- Here’s what I did

I have come to realize that, the older I get, the harder it is to lose weight! I have tried everything out there, but after a short amount of time, I would go right back to my bad habits! So, I decided, that instead of trying diets that are temporary, I need to do something that is a lifestyle change, and the results will last forever! Hopefully!!

After that ah-ha moment, I committed to be more focused on changing as a whole and changing my mindset, that way, it’s not just a fad diet, but it’s now a part of my life!

I have come up with, a few tips, that will help you get on the right track to, losing weight naturally, and making it a permanent part of your life as well!

Changing Your Mindset

I will be honest, I am an emotional eater! I used to be able to “get away with it”, but now it has caught up to me! I now have to be more mindful about everything I eat! It has definitely been a struggle!

When you decide to finally take that first step toward losing weight, it’s like your mind and your body, freaks out! You start having really bad cravings, you get moody and emotional, you feel like you’re starving, and there are even times when, you just feel like “what’s the point”. It feels like an emotional roller coaster when you start to make changes to your eating, and even, drinking habits!

What I learned is that, I just had to fight through it! I had to take it one day at a time, and work hard at changing my mindset! I had to encourage myself and keep myself motivated by staying focused on my goal! I had to mentally prepare myself and give myself permission to slip up and start over!

You have to be kind to yourself, keep focusing on your goals, and realize, this isn’t a fad diet, it’s a lifestyle change!

Don’t Go Cold Turkey

Going cold turkey, after spending years creating these bad habits, is not a good idea! When you do that, you run the risk of setting yourself up for failure!

I took a good look at my diet and started cutting things out, one thing at a time! I started with, cutting out fast food and soda. Those two were the worst of my bad habits, and one of the biggest causes, of some health issues I had. The first couple of weeks were the hardest and I had a couple of slip ups, but I started to see results right away and that’s what motivated me!

During those first couple of weeks, I started incorporating healthier food into my diet. I started eating more fruits, vegetables, and for the meat, I would just have boiled chicken! It wasn’t an exciting diet, but it really helped!

Subtract Something “Bad”, Add Something “Good”

Your body and your mind doesn’t do very well when you just, “take something away” from it, that it’s used to. For example: when I stopped drinking soda, I started juicing, making smoothies, drinking lots of water, and more natural juices like, cranberry juice. I still had the cravings, but I was replacing the nutrients that my body hadn’t been getting for a long time.

Doing that helped with the cravings and helped me feel better! Once my mind and body got over the fact that I was no longer drinking soda, it realized that I was supplying it with the nutrients it needs to function!

After you go through your diet and figure out the “bad” foods you need to take away, remember to replace that “bad” with “good”. When you do it that way, you’re not making yourself feel unsatisfied, unfulfilled and hungry!

The worst thing to do is to starve yourself! If your body feels like it’s starving, it will be harder to lose weight because your body will start storing the fat! Whenever you eliminate something from your diet, always replace it with something that your body can use to be healthier!

Do Your Research

Never go into a diet, preferably a lifestyle change, without a plan! Do your research! Figure out what’s best for you and your current lifestyle! Be realistic! Do something that is actually going to work for you and be honest with yourself about what you can do!

You never want to set yourself up for failure! What works for someone else, may not work for you! Come up with your own “diet”. You don’t have to follow any “diet” exactly! It’s OK to take it and make it your own! Find recipes that you will actually like and enjoy! Make it one of your goals to, make one new recipe every week! It could be a whole meal or a smoothie! Keep it interesting and fun!

Remember, the goal should be to make this a lifestyle change and not just a temporary diet! There’s so much information out there! Pick something that fits you! Set yourself up for success!

Focus On The Positive

Try not to get so caught up in the pressure of making a change! It’s OK to have a “cheat day” or to have a moment where, you reach for a cookie instead of a banana! Don’t put yourself down if that happens! Just continue to stay focused on your goals and the end result!

Always celebrate your accomplishments! Focus more on the positive aspect of making this change because, it will definitely pay off in the long run!

Losing weight naturally has helped me tremendously! I feel so much better, and the health issues that were caused by my bad eating habits, are now gone! Seeing those results has given me the motivation to keep up with the changes that I made!

Also, have a good support system! It really helps to have someone you can call in the moments where, you feel discouraged or you feel like giving up! You can encourage and motivate each other in this process!

When you wake up in the morning, do you jump out of bed, looking forward to the day ahead? When the sun hits your face, do you cover it back up, and have this feeling of not wanting to get out of bed?

I believe we all have those moments, but if it tends to be on a regular basis, it would be a good idea, to look deep down, and figure out, why you are feeling that way!

Being motivated and staying motivated is not always easy, but when you keep it in the forefront of your mind, it will become automatic!

Every morning when you wake up, remind yourself of your dreams and goals! When the sun hits your face, smile! Be thankful for another day!

It’s time to soar above the negativity and live your best life!

Insecurity=Procrastination

Did you know that being or feeling insecure, can lead to procrastination? When you are feeling insecure, do you have the motivation to step out and accomplish your goals?

The answer is… No! When you are feeling insecure, about yourself, or about what others think, or might think, that insecurity stagnates you! It stops you dead in your tracks and keeps you there! You start to second guess everything and then you just stop, and possibly even, give up!

Fighting that insecurity with positive thoughts and positive affirmations is the key to overcoming those negative feelings! When you focus on being secure in who you are, and happy with who you are, you will rise above that self-doubt and instead of procrastinating, you will choose to be proactive in your success!

Seeing the results of your productivity will raise your security level to new heights! You will see your hard work and determination pay off, and that alone, will help you to be motivated and stay motivated!

Fear Is The Enemy

Fear is the number one enemy, that keeps you from accomplishing your goals and dreams. When you give into your fear, it leads to so many other things, such as, depression, anxiety, loneliness, just to name a few. It’s so hard to be motivated and stay motivated when you are suffering from fear and the other feelings that come with that.

Giving into your fear is almost like, locking yourself in a cell, but you actually have the key in your pocket! Be your own hero! Fight for you! Unlock the cell door with the key of courage! Take that first step with love and peace! Hold your head up high with confidence, knowing, that no matter what may come your way, you will no longer live in fear, but you will choose to be brave and you will choose to be bold!

You are in charge of your future. Never let negativity deter you from your success!

No More Excuses

It’s time to be successful, accomplish your goals and dreams, and there’s no room for excuses when you are busy doing that! When you make excuses, you give yourself permission to procrastinate, and we all know what that leads to!

Are your excuses because of fear and insecurity? When you start to make an excuse, ask yourself, why, and actually answer yourself! It might seem a little weird at first, but it’s important to figure out the reason why, when you first make the excuse! The more you do that, the less likely you will be to fall into that negative mindset!

Stop the excuses dead in their tracks! Replace the excuses with positive affirmations! Keep yourself focused on what you want to accomplish and encourage yourself along the way!

You are brave! You are bold! You are a beautiful being! Let your determination over ride the excuses, and be the powerful, positive person you are meant to be!

One Step At A Time

We all know the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Changing your mindset will take time! How we think, feel, and look at life, happened over the course of time!

You will have your good days and bad days, but give yourself permission to do that! Know that is all a part of the process, but when you have those bad days, don’t stay in that! Let yourself feel, and at the moment of those negative feelings, learn to address them and then let them go. Love yourself even more in those moments! Forgive yourself and others, so that negativity does not consume you!

Choose to focus on the positive! Listen to positive music, watch a positive, motivational video, read a positive book! Surround yourself with positivity!

Your thoughts are very powerful! They can either help you or hurt you! You should continually stay aware and mindful of what you’re thinking! Be in charge of your thoughts and realize the power that you can have over them! You can choose to change your way of thinking, change how you feel, and change your life by just one thought! How will you choose to think?

Take it one step at a time! Try not to let yourself get discouraged! Focus on what’s ahead and what’s to come! Continually reassure yourself and remind yourself that you will get through this!

It takes time and patience, try not to rush the process, but continue to live in the moment! Enjoy the process! Learn the lessons! Life is a journey! Make the decision to make it a positive one, choose to be at peace, no matter what you’re going through, and take it one step at a time!

I know that sometimes, living your best life is easier said than done, but you’ve been given the tools to be able to live your best life! Use them to overcome the road blocks you may encounter! What we thought was a bad situation, was actually a learning experience for our good!

Beauty Product Safety- The Truth

Have you ever really thought about what’s in the products you’re using? Did you know that the last time the FDA put any regulations on cosmetics was June 25, 1938? Since then, they’ve only banned eleven cosmetic ingredients for safety reasons. In the 1950’s, Congress tried to modernize the cosmetics law, but they were, unfortunately, defeated by the cosmetic industry.

Beauty product safety is just as important as anything else, and should be taken very seriously! If beauty products are not regulated and studied, then how do we know the effect they truly have on us?

Ingredients And Your Health

Your health can be negatively affected by the ingredients that you are using. When I am researching a product, I always check the list of ingredients. I will even google them to see exactly what they are, and what they are used for. Here are some examples that I have found:

  • Propylene glycol- used as an additive in antifreeze
  • dimethicone silicone- is a silicon oil, it’s man made and it’s used to create a coating on your skin, which can lead to clogged pores and breakouts
  • Silica- is a mineral, and the dust from it has been known to cause lung disease and lung cancer. You can find it predominately on construction sites.
  • Parabens- are a type of preservative. Studies have found they disrupt hormone function by mimicking estrogen, which can lead to breast cancer and reproductive issues.
  • Fragrance- can contain hormone disruptors and are among the top 5 allergens in the world
  • Sodium lauryl sulfate- studies have labeled this a “moderate hazard” and states that it has been linked to cancer, neurotoxicity, organ toxicity, skin irritation and endocrine disruption.

I know some of these ingredients are hard to get away from! I’m sure some of the things I’m using, has at least one of these ingredients, but those are just some examples of the ingredients I found. There are definitely a lot more out there!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to do your research! You have to really be mindful of what you’re putting on your body, because it actually can affect your overall health!

Organic Vs Natural

Organic vs natural. They sound like the same thing right? Actually, they’re not. Natural means it should have nothing artificial or synthetic in it. Organic means, According to the USDA, it should be free of synthetic additives like pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and dyes, and must not be processed using industrial solvents, irradiation, or genetic engineering.

Both of these terms can be used very loosely by cosmetic companies. There are no restrictions on cosmetic companies, in regard to what they label the product, so they can just put one natural or organic ingredient in, and call it natural or organic!

When you see a product labeled organic, you should also see words like:

  • Vegan
  • GMO-free
  • Eco-friendly
  • Cruelty-free
  • Free of harmful chemicals, irritants or preservatives
  • Carefully formulated with all natural, organic ingredients”

If you see this on the label, USDA-certified organic, that means it’s certified organic by the FDA. The best thing to do is, read the list of ingredients! Make sure the product is actually natural or, best of all, organic!

Less Is More

The less the list of ingredients, the better! If you’re reading a list of ingredients and it’s like 2 pages long, it’s more than likely filled with a ton of chemicals!

Unfortunately, we can’t trust the cosmetic companies. We have to do our own research about what they are putting in the products. A great place I found organic products is Etsy! The site is filled with all natural and organic products!

On Etsy, when you see a product listed organic, most will give you, not only the list of ingredients, but will also tell you what each one is and what it’s used for! They also usually have an asterisk next to the name of the ingredient that is actually organic! I love that! I feel like that’s how it should be for all products!

Demand Better Regulations

Why are we accepting this from cosmetic companies? We are the consumer. They should be doing everything in their power to provide us with top-notch ingredients! If we as consumer’s stopped accepting this from cosmetic companies, they would have to change!

Beauty is not worth jeopardizing our health! Cosmetic companies should be held accountable for putting chemicals in our products! Even though, it might be cheaper… Cheaper is not always better!

The cosmetic industry is a billion dollar industry! They should be heavily regulated, just like any other industry! Why are they allowed to get away with, pretty much, putting whatever they want in our products? Why hasn’t the government considered this a priority?

Just because the chemicals being used come in a small quantity, it can still affect your health negatively over time! This should be taken a lot more seriously than it is! The consumer’s health should be just as important as the money that they make!

If this isn’t a priority for them, make it a priority for you! Stand up for your rights! Stand up for your health! Stand up for you!

Learn To Love The Skin You’re In

How about we just learn to love the skin that we’re in? Wouldn’t that be so much easier? Instead of looking for all of these products to cover ourselves up, or change our look, or promise to improve our look… How about we just accept ourselves, love ourselves and go completely all natural!!

Society has created this “image” that we’re expected to try to live up to, but it’s not realistic! Can you imagine a world without plastic surgery, make up, etc… A world that was a bit more simple? I guarantee you, the celebrities of our day, probably wouldn’t be as popular!

That’s because we would all just be how we were originally made to be! It would be less about looks and more about the actual person! I think that would be amazing, but since that’s not actually the case, it’s still possible to just love the skin you’re in and show the world who you really are, inside/out!

How To Improve Skin Health- Tips Just For You!

We’ve all seen the ads, advertising products to improve skin health, but how about improving your skin naturally? Finding the best product that actually helps, can be overwhelming! Believe me! I’ve been right where you are! My skin has a mind of its own! One minute, I can use a certain product, and the next minute, I can’t! That’s why, I decided to share with you, the research I’ve done to improve my skin naturally!

In this article, I will give you tips on the different things you can do, and the steps you can take, to improve the overall health of your skin!

What Type Of Skin Do You Have?

This step might actually be the hardest step! If you’re anything like me, it can be forever changing. The best thing to do is, really be mindful of your skin. Is it mostly dry, oily, or a combination of both? Do certain products make it dry or oily? Does it change with the seasons? How sensitive is it?

My skin is extremely sensitive! Sometimes, I feel like if I walk past something it doesn’t like, I’ll break out! It took a lot of trial and error, figuring out what worked and what didn’t work, to get to the point I’m at now. And, you have to remember, the skin is the largest organ in the body. It is an active, living tissue and it really does make a difference what you’re putting on it. You want to be kind to it and use natural products, as much as you can!

Listen to your skin! Once you figure out what type of skin you have, then the rest of the process will be a little easier for you.

Figuring out what type of skin you have, is the foundation that you can build on, to then, find the solution that works best for you!

Diet Affect’s Skin!

In my last article, I talked about being whole starting from the inside/out, and diet is very important in that process! Anytime my skin starts acting up, I automatically think, “What did I eat or drink that might have caused that”? That’s a very important question to ask. Sometimes, the cause of a breakout can actually be from something you ate or drank!

When doing my research, I came across a lot of sites that related skin issues to diet, because a bad diet can lead to health issues, which in turn, can affect the skin! It’s definitely a domino effect and it’s very important to be mindful of what you’re putting in your body, especially when dealing with skin issue’s!

The best thing to do for your skin is to, drink lots of water, eat more fruits and vegetables, and stay away from processed foods and sugar, as best you can! I know that might seem difficult, but believe me, it’s the best thing you can do for your skin!

When you start to eat healthier, you will start to see results right away, and your skin will thank you!

Exercise!

Yes! I know to some, I just said a very bad word! I’m sure you’re already thinking, how can I find the time and what does this have to do with my skin, but exercise is so important! It increases blood flow, and helps nourish skin cells and keep them vital, because blood carries oxygen and nutrients to working cells throughout the body, including the skin!

It’s very important to take a couple of minutes out of your day and just move! Make it fun! It can even be something like, parking a little farther away from the entrance, taking a walk on your lunch break, or doing squats while you’re washing dishes! You can even exercise during the commercial breaks when you’re watching TV! It might sound silly, but every little bit helps!

Exercise might not sound exciting, but just take it one step at a time, literally! You will start to see a huge difference and you will start to feel a lot better! Once you start, and once you see the results, it will be easier, and you will actually want to incorporate it into your daily routine!

Here’s a suggestion, instead of calling it exercise, lets just call it moving! When you get up in the morning, you can say, “I’m going to move a little bit more today”! That way, you’re not focused so much on the word itself, your main focus will just be on moving, and that’s easy enough to do!

So, lets make a point to move today and get this blood flowing through our body and give oxygen and nutrients to our skin! Let’s move!!!

Organic Is Always Better!

This is such a true statement! Diet can negatively affect the skin, but also, using products with tons of chemicals, can negatively affect the skin. Eating organic and using organic products is always better! It might be a little bit more expensive, but in the long run, you will see a positive change in your skin and in your body as a whole!

We only have one body and it is so intricately run! It craves healthy food and products! Do you notice that when you eat something really unhealthy, you might start to feel nauseous or have a stomach ache? Do you notice that if you use a product full of chemicals, you break out or your skin has a bad reaction? Well, that is your bodies way of rejecting it and letting you know that it doesn’t like it!

You wouldn’t put gas, filled with chemicals, that could cause your car to break down, in your gas tank, would you? Then why are we putting stuff like that in and on our bodies? We have to stay mindful and take care of our skin and our body, so we live a long, healthy life and keep our skin and body healthy and vibrant!

That’s why, organic is the way to go! So, the next time you pick out a product or buy food, think to yourself, will this negatively affect me or will my body and skin, thank me?!

I know we’re all looking for quick results, but positive results can take time! Seeing negative results usually happen a lot quicker than seeing positive results, but just remember, it’s a process, and the steps that I shared with you, are definitely worth doing!

Set a goal! Give yourself a time frame! Start to incorporate these tips into your daily routine! Change a couple of things in your diet, move a little bit more throughout your day, start to include more organic products and foods into your life!

How To Be a Whole Person- Starting From The Inside/Out!

Have you ever felt empty? Have you ever felt alone in a crowded room? Do you have a full life, but you feel like you’re missing something? We’ve all been there! It’s a part of life! The important thing is, that you realized it, and now you’re on the path to doing something about it!

In this article, I will help you do just that! I will give you tips on how to be a whole person and share with you lessons that I have learned along the way and that I continue to learn. Life is a journey! We are forever learning lessons. We are forever growing as an individual. What makes the difference is, if you choose to allow that positive change to happen or if you choose to ignore it.

Start from the inside/out and allow the positive change to happen! Choose to be whole!

Know That You Are Enough

Being a whole person starts on the inside. Knowing that you are enough is a big first step in this process. Feeling comfortable and confident with who you are is an amazing gift that not everyone receives. Try not to compare yourself to others. Just know that all of your differences is what makes you special. It’s what makes you unique! It’s what makes you, YOU!

When you start to feel down or discouraged, when you start to let other people’s opinions affect you, when you start to question yourself, how about, instead of pointing out everything YOU think is a flaw, look in the mirror and say “I am enough! I am strong! I am brave! I am beautiful! I am whole!”

None of us have “flaws”. None of us have “mistakes”, we only have differences! No two people are alike! Even twins have their own uniqueness! We all have our own personalities, body types, hair styles, skin color. All of that is what makes us beautiful! Isn’t that freeing when you think about it that way?

Be kind to yourself. Love yourself, and everything about you, and remember, YOU ARE ENOUGH!

It’s OK To Be Happy

This may seem like a very straightforward and simple topic, but it’s really not. If you take a moment and honestly, think about your life, are you really, truly happy? Are you living your best life? Are you in the career you always dreamed of? Are you living the life that makes you happy or are you living a life that makes someone else happy?

If you answered no to any of those questions, then I can pretty confidently say, you are not fully happy. Think about when you were a kid and you had all of these dreams and aspirations. Have you fulfilled any of those? As an adult, we tend to get caught up in the seriousness of life, but what if we looked at life through the eyes of a child? That innocence. That excitement. That curiosity. That eagerness to learn more!

Think back on that, and know that, it’s OK to be happy! It’s OK to go back to those dreams and aspirations, that you had or that you have, and do what makes you happy! When you are happy, you feel whole. You feel complete. You feel fulfilled. You have peace.

You don’t have to change your life drastically to fulfill this step, but just be mindful in everything that you do, and ask yourself, am I truly happy? Does this truly make me happy? If the answer is, YES, then go for it, because it’s OK to be happy!

Take Care Of Yourself First

I already know what you’re thinking! How can I take care of myself first when I have all of these responsibilities? Believe me! I totally understand! This step is not the easiest, but it’s the most important! We have to constantly remind ourselves to take care of our self first!

It is so important to set time aside every day to just do something for you! It can be 10 minutes or an hour, doing something as simple as sitting outside with a cup of coffee or getting a massage. It doesn’t have to be anything big, but it should be something!

Whatever you choose to do, make sure it helps you clear your mind, gives you peace and helps you feel refreshed! Whatever you choose to do, make sure it helps you feel rejuvenated and energized, so you feel ready to take on the world!

Focus on taking care of you and never feel guilty about it! It’s the best thing you can do for yourself! When you take care of yourself first, you’re able to give more of yourself to others. You will feel like a weight has been lifted! You won’t feel so boggled down and stressed! You will be happier and so will everyone else around you!

This is the number one step to being a whole person!

Be Independent

You’re probably asking yourself right now, what does this have to do with being a whole person? It actually has A LOT to do with it! I’m going to first share with you what independence means… Independence means free from outside control, not depending on another’s authority, not depending on another for livelihood or substance.

I’ll let you think about that for a little bit…

Being independent and being a whole person means, not looking to anyone else for your happiness, not looking to anyone else to sustain you, not looking to anyone else to love you, validate you, believe in you or complete you. Being independent and being a whole person means, you are happy with you and no matter what anyone else says or does, you will be OK.

Being the person you were meant to be, stepping out of someone else’s shadow and walking in your own light. Living in your truth. Walking the path you were meant to walk. These are just some examples of living an independent life!

When you reach this point, you know you have mastered the art of being whole!

Be Whole! Be Happy! Just Be You!

My Top 5 Beauty Products- For Sensitive Skin

I am always on the look out for beauty products that are, as close to all natural as I can get! I am constantly researching products to find the best natural product, so I completely understand why you’re reading this right now!

I try to find ingredients that are mostly organic and all natural! I have found that my skin prefers those the best! I have also found, by trial and error, that there are certain ingredients that my skin absolutely hates!

The best thing to do, when you are researching, is to look at the list of ingredients because, even though a product claims to be all natural or organic, they still add certain chemicals to it. So, I always look through the list, just to make sure! I also, read the reviews, and maybe watch a couple of videos, to see if other people have had any reactions!

My skin really is that high maintenance! It likes only the best and only the most natural, and after doing thorough research, I decided to share my top 5  beauty products I found, that have very few ingredients or are all natural, and don’t irritate my sensitive skin!

  1. My # 1 go to foundation, that I found on Etsy is called, Better’n Ur Skin Mineral Foundation. It’s all natural, vegan and gluten free! It goes on so smooth and it looks natural too!
  2. If you are looking for a natural shampoo and conditioner, I suggest, Puracy Natural Shampoo and Conditioner! It’s non-toxic, hypoallergenic, vegan, gluten-free, biodegradable and certified cruelty-free! It also leaves your hair looking and feeling beautiful!
  3. This next one is, Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water! It’s great for, not only removing your make up, but making your skin feel refreshed as well!
  4. The body wash I use is, Tree to Tub- Soapberry for Body! It’s amazing! It works for all skin types! It has skin calming ingredients and leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh without irritating it! It’s free of harsh chemicals, vegan and cruelty free!
  5. Last, but not least, everyone needs a good moisturizer. and I’ve found the best one for me is, Christina Moss Organic Facial Moisturizer- Unscented! I have extremely sensitive skin and this really works! It softens, repairs and reverses damage with natural healing and has anti-aging ingredients! Best of all, it’s chemical free!
